MD3 brings physician-level critical care to Central Maine—care that is typically only available in hospital intensive care units (ICUs) or emergency departments.
As a vital part of Central Maine’s EMS system, MD3 is a specialized response program staffed by Emergency Medicine physicians with advanced EMS training. These physicians work hand-in-hand with EMTs and paramedics on the scene to provide comprehensive care. By combining our physician expertise with the skills of EMTs and paramedics, we ensure patients receive the highest level of treatment from the moment we arrive until they reach the appropriate medical facility.
MD3 is one of only a few programs in the country to place a physician in the field, providing advanced care on-site and during transport. We bring hospital-level care directly to the scene of a trauma or medical emergency, offering critical interventions that are usually reserved for a hospital setting.
Our team brings advanced medical technology, typically found in ICUs and emergency departments, directly to the patient. This includes invasive cardiac and neuromonitoring, medical-assisted airway management, ventilators, multiple infusion pumps with access to a hospital pharmacy, ultrasound, and a full array of specialty resuscitation equipment to manage each patient, regardless of age or medical condition.
