Welcome to MD3 Rounds, a new series for our public safety partners. Ever considered calling MD3 to your scene?
We are a non-profit physician response team that brings the advanced skills and diagnostics of an emergency department directly to you. Our physicians are experts in emergency medicine, critical care, and EMS, serving as a direct resource for prehospital providers.
When to Request MD3
Request MD3 for challenging cases that could benefit from immediate physician-level care. We are a resource for patients who:
- Need care beyond standard paramedic protocols.
- Could benefit from direct, on-scene medical control.
- Might avoid an ED transport through on-site treatment.
Advanced On-Scene Capabilities
Our physicians bring advanced procedures and equipment to the patient’s side, including:
- Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI): Securing a definitive airway using advanced medication.
- Point-of-Care Ultrasound: On-scene diagnostics for conditions like internal bleeding or to guide procedures.
- Wound Repair: Suturing and management of complex wounds.
- Blood Transfusions: Administering blood products in cases of severe bleeding.
- Ventilator Management: Initiating and managing a mechanical ventilator during transport.
- Chest Tube Placement: Draining air or fluid to reinflate a collapsed lung.
- Pericardiocentesis: Draining fluid from the sac around the heart to relieve life-threatening pressure.
- Surgical Procedures: Including field amputation, emergency thoracotomy, or resuscitative hysterotomy when necessary.
- Complex Care: Managing urinary catheters, complex transports, and treat-and-release cases.
